Why We Need to Have Tough Conversations with Our Kids

Too often parents and guardians make the mistake of avoiding having a difficult or awkward conversation with their kid or teen because the subject matter is uncomfortable.

Now I’m NOT a parent. But I was a kid.

I’m not a parenting expert….I’m a communications expert, with strong views on communicating with humans, including the little ones.

In this clip from the Empowered Relationships podcast episode, I cover:

  • Why we avoid tough conversations with our kids
  • The amazing opportunities missed we we avoid those conversations
  • How to open the conversation with your child
  • How to welcome the Tough Conversations
  • A juicy topic one parent avoided out of fear
  • How coaching can make the conversation so much easier!
  • How “hiding fighting” hurts our kids, and how to be more transparent about anger

I think it’s imperative we model the type of behavior we want to see in our kids. Let me know if you agree – or disagree! – in the comments below.

You can hear the full interview on Dr. Higgins’ podcast (when published) at Empowered Relationships.
